Sauce for the sage
Heinz is a typical Buffett target. It has strong brands—not just Heinz, but
Classico pasta sauces, ABC soy sauce and Ore-Ida French (and other) fries. These
give it a decent chance of standing up to competition from cheaper taste-alikes,
including supermarkets’ own-label products. Heinz is also in an
easy-to-understand business, a plus in the eyes of the Omaha sage. And it will
sit naturally alongside Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble, two of the biggest
holdings of Berkshire Hathaway, Mr Buffet’s holding company.
